Well the Olympics are over and for what it's worth, to anyone reading this, I thought they sucked. At least the coverage provided by NBC sucked.. Instead of hi lighting a lot of sports, they chose to broadcast only those that they thought USA could win medals in. I never in my life want to see another volleyball game - either beach or court.
I am totally burned out on water sports and we wont even go to the track. I did enjoy the rowing, but again, way too much of it.
I scrolled through all the channels (CNBC, MSNBC, USA) that were showing the different sports only to have to watch either soccer (football), boxing, and softball.
And we wont even go into the final round of boxing and what I think happened to the poor kid from Mongolia, or the ages of the female gymnasts. China, you cheated and badly I might add. Stop at nothing to win.
What a thorough disappointment this has been. I love to watch the magnificence that is trampoline ( if you've never watched it is amazing). I never got to see any of the shooting, even though I hate guns. They showed very little of the BMX, most of the rowing, but none of the interior track sports, like javelin, shot put etc.
They showed only anywhere that America should win medals.
Well Hello!!! We aren't all American born here.. And we want to see all of the Olympics. Even if it is the final rounds only.. no matter who is slated to win.
This is about a world coming together under the guise of sports to unite.
Instead what I got crammed down my throat was the desire to win at all costs. I was shown that no matter who or what you are in this world, you have to have money to make it.
Nothing was hardly ever mentioned of the struggles of some of the athletes just to be there. Some of those that were mentioned in the opening ceremonies should have been followed. Just to let the world know that you don't have to have money to make a difference.
Take the Iron Man Triathlon in Hawaii for instance.( coverage provided by ABC) They follow some of those people long into the night, long after the bell has sounded for the winners. They show the compassion of the sport. They show the determination of the athletes. They tell you the struggles and the humanity of it all.
The Olympics, they showed the winners.. They didn't show what it takes to get there. (runners from Somalia, Shooters from India)
This, for me, was a bitter disappointment.
I hope someone from NBC reads this and understands that not everyone in this country wants to see arrogance at its worst..
The time spent on commercials in the debacle that was the opening ceremonies was horrific. I got 3 minutes of ceremony and 5 minutes of commercials.. Geezus, what were you thinking. Then you have the nerve to ask me if I want to buy a DVD of them. Does it have all the commercials in it??
And what's with the National Anthem? Were the athletes told not to sing it? Any other sporting event the athletes have always sung along with the music. Only one did this time..(Kobe Bryant) Not one other athlete sang along with the music, in all the gold medal ceremonies we saw..No Pride shown there either..
I surely hope someone else gets the rights to coverage for the Winter Olympics or I wont be watching..
No, NBC, you screwed this one up royally for me.
Whats bad is that I have watched the games since I was 6 or 7 and never missed one, and never have I walked away feeling like I was shorted on the experience.. Thanks NBC, for nothing..
